Program Structure

The Master of Health Administration (MHA) is a professional graduate degree that prepares the graduate for a career as a senior administrator of a health service organization. The MHA at Hudson College is Oklahoma's only program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Health Management Education.

Students will gain an understanding of the following competency areas

Healthcare Strategic Planning and Marketing

This course covers elements of organizational strategy and their application to the health industry. You’ll dive into topics from leadership to components of strategic plans, such as development, implementation, and evaluation, in relation to organizational environments.

Financial Management of Health Service Organizations

You’ll learn the indicators of fiscal performance common to all health service organizations. This course covers the fundamentals of managing working capital, sources of funding, and capital rationing and concludes with a discussion of advanced methods of improving profitability.

Health Policy and Politics

This course enables you to examine how health policy in the U. S. is initiated, formulated and implemented. You’ll analyze political culture, interest group and party behavior, the legislative and executive processes, and the dynamics of federalism through a comparative, cross national and cross-state perspective.

Real-World Experience

Internships

You’ll complete a 400-hour internship to gain insight into practices such as management, planning, policy analysis, and working with other health professionals in the real world. Internship sites include hospitals, multispecialty physician practices, long-term care facilities, university medical centers, and the Veterans Administration.

Case Competitions

Case competitions simulate the challenges health care management professionals face every day. Competing in regional and national competitions allows you to test your understanding, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic planning through real-world scenarios and present your proposal and plan to health administrators before you face a panel of judges.

Capstone Course

The MHA capstone course allows you to work with real health administrators in a local health care system to create solutions to a critical issue they face, such as emergency room efficiency. You’ll work on these projects in student teams and present your work at the end of the course.

Dale W. Bratzler, D.O., MPH
Dale W. Bratzler, D.O., MPH Dean; Chair & Edith Kinney Gaylord Presidential Professor Dr. Bratzler serves as the Chief Quality Officer for the three-hospital health system and faculty practice at OU Health and two terms as president of the American Health Quality Association. He was... Dr. Bratzler serves as the Chief Quality Officer for the three-hospital health system and faculty practice at OU Health and two terms as president of the American Health Quality Association. He was appointed to the National Advisory Council for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality from 2005-2008 and the CDC’s Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee. He spent a year as a Senior Policy Advisor for the CDC. He’s participated in research on preventing surgical infections and on adult vaccination for over 20 years. He has published over 100 manuscripts in journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, and Health Affairs. He has given more than 600 lectures nationally on health care quality topics, particularly on the prevention of surgical site infections and adult vaccination.

Initially trained as a clinician, she received subsequent health policy and economics training. She earned her Ph.D. in health policy with a concentration in economics from McMaster University, her Ph.D. in mathematical behavioral sciences from the University of California, and her MPH from Harvard. Her interests include improv/theatre, poetry, tennis, golf, spiritual travel, and philanthropy.

Halley Reeves is a community health strategist who served as the Oklahoma City County Health Department's Chief Public Health Strategist and Vice President for Community Health Impact for OU Health. She also worked at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, and MIT, where she focused on incorporating the social determinants of health into health care policy and developing innovative investment strategies to fund healthy community and housing development. She holds an MPH from the University of Washington and a Master’s in City Planning (MCP) from MIT.
